Texas Works will be in the Fine Arts Gallery until February 6, 2011. This show focuses on the creative talents and productions of Texas Artists and over the past several years the exhibition has grown to include individuals with innovative styles and concepts. This year the exhibit will explore the works of three foreign-born female artists living in Texas today. Lahib Jaddo, of Lubbock, Sang-Mi Yoo of Lubbock, and Mirtha Aertker of Allen, Texas will be featured. Lahib Jaddo's pieces were created in the past two years and feature a prominent single female figure, an "Archetype". Sang-Mi Yoo's installation and print media obscure the distinction between perception and reality, the past and the present, revealing the contradictions of our fixed way of seeing everyday life and values. Mirtha Aertker looks to history, mythology and nature as inspiration for her clay and steel sculptures. Each of the featured artists has demonstrated novel contributions to their medium, which are displayed in Texas Works.
The Buddy Holly Center will be participating in the First Friday Art Trail in February (Feb. 4) from 6pm-9pm.
